Heads Up: Blogger Has a New Way of Displaying Images

Edited on Thursday, September 29: It appears that the slideshow function was a test, for as of a day or two ago now, when I click images on Blogger blogs, Blogger displays them the regular old way. So much for all that :}

Dear readers,

This evening I discovered that when you click an image in a Blogger blog posting, instead of seeing the original image in larger format, you get a slideshow function in a black screen that lets you look at all the images in your post...in a rather small size.

Like many bloggers, I put smaller-scale images in the main text body, allowing text to flow around them so readers can keep the flow going, and only click on images when they want to look at bigger versions.

This slide show is convenient, but isn't so great for costumers who love to offer their readers really big image versions so they can look at fine details like seams and individual stitches. Terrible for people like me who love blogs that show fine details in giant images!

Don't despair: you can still get those mega images. Here's how.

Towards the bottom left of the slideshow screen the phrase "Image from" appears, followed by a Blogger web address, or part of one. Click that Web address. A new window opens, containing the original image, sized for the window. If you to see the original as big as originally designed, click the image itself and voila. View all the details!

Here's a screen capture of the lower left corner of the slideshow screen with the link I am talking about, below.

Happy viewing,

Natalie

Dear fabriquefantastique,
You are welcome! It took me awhile to figure out that the larger images were still available. Things change so fast most of us feel like dinosaurs, really.
Very best,

I'm going to have to save this info because I don't really want mine in a slideshow especially since at some time I will once again be having my blog printed into a book. And I like my readers to be able to see them closeup too.
Thanks!
Val

Dear Val,

Hmmm, I am unsure how you will turn off the slideshow. The link on the slideshow page is per image, and just leads you to the big images rather than switches the slideshow off.

What you could do for printing your blog, although it would be time intensive, is to change each photo's setting to "original size" or "extra large". You do this by clicking on the image in the Blogger editor, and then selecting the size from the options given.

Natalie

Oh dear. I knew I should have had the last years worth printed out already. I hope the blog to a book still works. I loved my last one.

Gah what a pain! I use a netbook 95% of the time, and it doesn't show the whole screen so I can't get to the expand link.
I don't like what Blogger is doing, it's mucking up logins, images, the new interface is a night mare on a netbook so I'm ignoring it, grumpy old lady rant!

Dear Mrs. C.,
Oh no, you cannot see the link? Will the netbook allow downward scrolling? This is not good at all.

Yes, some funky things have been going on. Sure hope they fix them. I am grumpy too.

On the bright side, spring is coming your way, isn't it?

I just did my own entry in my blog and now understand what you were talking about here. My photos still show up as normal, but its when you click on it to enlarge it while reading my post, that it takes you to a slideshow-type view instead. So this won't affect it when I have it made into a book. But it is irritating that your readers can't enlarge the photos to see them better.

Dear Val,
...can't, unless in the slideshow, they click that little link. Ah well.

Very best,
